About us

Boston and South Holland Talking Newspaper has been providing local news to visually impaired listeners since 1979 and is run entirely by volunteers. For the first 30 years we recorded to cassette, but ageing equipment and poor sound quality in recent years convinced us that we needed to modernise.

After fund raising to buy new equipment we changed from cassette to digital in February 2016. We provided 80 simple to use players to those of our listeners who needed them and helped approximately 30 people to learn how to use them.

We have over 23 volunteers who carry out a wide range of tasks on behalf of the charity and over 60 visually impaired listeners.

The service, as before remains free.

Management Committee

Comprises three officers elected annually at the AGM. These are Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer with other committee members also elected on an annual basis. Additional committee members can be co-opted during the year as advisers if specialist advice is needed for a specific project.

Our Studio

The charity is based in the Len Medlock Voluntary Centre, St George’s Road, Boston, with a number of other charities. The building, which was built specifically for this purpose was the brainchild of Len Medlock, a very successful businessman, who never forgot his roots in Boston.

The Centre offers us and other charities a central location, near public transport, secure, clean accommodation, a disabled lift and a reception service – where our wallets are delivered on a daily weekday basis.

We hold our committee meetings and our AGM in the Len Medlock ground floor conference room, making it accessible for sight impaired listeners.
